SUNSMART KARRI VALLEY TRIATHLON

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the SunSmart Karri Valley Triathlon being held right here at the RAC Karri Valley Resort. Providing triathletes with a unique racing experience, the course showcases the beauty of WA’s South West. Swim on the majestic Lake Beedelup, ride the undulating course beneath the canopy of the Karri Forest and soak up the spectacular views along the trial. With registration options including long, short, team, individual and TRYStar Kids, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

Unearthed Pemberton encourages visitors off the beaten track in a series of open gates, studios and events throughout the Southern Forest region. From the 26th April to the 6th May, the festival will showcase the regions premier food and wine producers, culinary professionals, art, heritage and of course natural beauty.

SOUTH WEST MUDFEST

The South West Mudfest is just around the corner, taking place on 7 July . When you’re well limbered up and have your camp clothes on, you can head down to Bootleg Brewery where the fun begins. There will be two mucky courses: the 5km Mud Mayhem and 12km Dirty Dozen, with the tracks of both littered with distinctly South West obstacles.

CINEFEST OZ

Your chance to rub shoulders with the stars. CinefestOZ, held 22 – 26 August, is Australia’s premier destination film festival. It attracts filmmakers, stars and visitors to Australia’s South West, with a massive program of film related events and film industry forums in the Western Australian centres of Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and surround.

CAPE TO CAPE MTB

The Cape to Cape MTB is a four-day mountain bike stage race through the Margaret River region in Western Australia. The event is a challenge for riders of all levels, either recreational or competitive. The course is set to an iconic backdrop of world-famous surf beaches, private farmland and national parks.

MEGAFAUNA FUNSHOP

Megafauna Funshops are back for the holidays! The Funshops are suitable for children of virtually any age. Kids get to dig for real animal bones like a palaeontologist, they see an excellent Megafauna presentation on the big screen, and there is also a colouring-in table for the really young kids.

Then they get a full Megafauna tour of where all the incredible bones were found in Mammoth Cave. Adults get just as much out of these sessions as kids!

WILDFLOWER SEASON

WA wildflowers bloom on Australia’s Coral Coast all year round, but between July and November you’ll see some of the most stunning displays in the State, when blankets of brilliant wildflowers colour the outback landscape. Made up of 17,000 hectares of coastal heathland, the Nambung National Park is home to a variety of native plants and animals.

Wildflowers commonly found in the Nambung National Park during late winter and spring include wattles, quandong, yellow tail flower, think-leaved fan flower, white clematis, cockies tongues, parrotbush and banksia species.

CERVANTES ARTS FESTIVAL

The Cervantes Art Festival is a biennial event incorporating art, craft, photography, bush poetry competitions & exhibitions. It will also have dance & gymnastic displays from local groups, craft stalls and activities. The festival is hosted by the Cervantes Cultural Committee and is held in late October.

SHARK BAY WINTER FESTIVAL

The Shark Bay Winter Festival is held on the middle weekend of the Western Australian July school holidays. This is a three day event starting on Friday with a street parade, Saturday is the Shark Bay Farwestern Speedway Championship (this is the biggest one day speedway meet in Australia) followed by entertainment and fireworks, and Sunday hosts the Winter Markets with side show, stalls and more entertainment.

KINDY GYM

Kindy Gym, held at the Shark Bay Recreation Centre on Francis Street – provides an opportunity for children to enhance their skills and socialise in a fun setting. STAR GAZERS NIGHT

The Star Gazers night is held at the Peron Homestead in the month of September (depending on the moon). This informative evening is hosted by the Geraldton Astronomy Group who come to Shark Bay with all of their equipment and give the locals and visitor an insight into the world of astronomy.

SHARK BAY RENDEZVOUS FESTIVAL

The festival events include: Sailing by the Stars, re-enactment of Louis and Rose de Freycinets camp at Cape Lesueur, market stalls, including french food and a faux french poodle parade, period costumes, concert with French musicians and headline bands, speedway meet at the Shark Bay Speedway, and much, much more.

Forming part of the World Surf League (WSL) World Championship Tour (WCT) from 11 – 22 April. Watch the top globally ranked 34 male and 16 female surfers compete. One of eleven WCT events globally occurring at iconic destinations including O’ahu Hawaii, Lower Trestles California, Jeffreys Bay South Africa and Teahup’o Tahiti. Now in its 33rd year, the event celebrates sun, surf, food and arts in an extraordinary natural environment! So head down to Surfers Point, Prevelly to watch the best surfers in the world battle it out.

WHALE SHARK SEASON

Every year from April to July, the world’s biggest fish congregate along the Ningaloo Reef. These are the whale sharks! The chance to snorkel with these gentle giants is the opportunity of a lifetime and visitors from all over the world head to the Ningaloo Reef during whale shark season to do just this.

WILDFLOWER SEASON

The North West Cape nutures an unusually large variety of flora and more than 630 species have been recorded here to date. The Cape Range Trail extends from Minilya up the Minilya – Exmouth Rd to Yardie creek in the Cape Range National park. Throughout this trail Sturt Desert Peas, Mulla Mulla, Green Birdflowers, Rock growing Ficus and other species may be seen. The general time wildflowers can be found in this area is July – October (depending on the rains).
