A one-of-a-kind natural phenomenon along the Kimberley coast, the Staircase to the Moon occurs when the full moon rises and creates a shimmering path of light on the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay.
The most popular viewing spots are the Mangrove Hotel and Town Beach, both offering spectacular views to take in the sparkling staircase in all its glory. However, any elevated location facing east toward Roebuck Bay will offer a good vantage point to watch the moon rise.
The event typically happens for two or three nights each month during the full moon, from March to October. At Town Beach, the Staircase to the Moon Night Market is held on one of the event nights from 4 pm to 8 pm. Grab dinner from a food van, enjoy live music, and browse stalls showcasing local crafts and wares as you wait for the moon to appear.
