RAC Karri Valley Resort

There are some beautiful bushwalks starting from RAC Karri Valley Resort, and numerous trails to be found near Pemberton. Here are some of our favourites to add to your list:

Beedelup Falls and Walk Through Tree

Don’t miss the delightful Beedelup Loop walk, with the trail starting from RAC Karri Valley Resort. This 3.5 km circuit takes you to the rocky cascades of Beedelup Falls and around the perimeter of Lake Beedelup. You’ll pass by the Walk Through Tree, a 75-metre tall karri tree with a hollow opening in its 2.4-metre diameter trunk. As the name suggests, you can walk through and even stand up straight inside this unique tree. Allow 1.5 – 2 hours to complete the full circuit loop.

Gloucester Tree Walk

This 3km trail navigates through peaceful karri and marri forest, beginning at the Pemberton Visitor Centre and leading to the Gloucester Tree in Gloucester National Park. Although climbing the tree is currently not permitted, the area remains open for visitors who wish to see the historic tree. You can admire the towering karri tree up close, learning about the tree’s history through informational boards detailing how its role in the important network of fire lookout trees and towers used in the region.

Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree

If you would like to climb a tree, the Bicentennial tree has been re-opened to the first platform, 20m above the forest floor. Enjoy a light 200m walk along Lorikeet Stroll where you’ll likely spot splendid fairy-wrens, white-breasted robins and grey fantails.

Bibbulmun Track

Experience a taste of Western Australia’s longest bushwalking track, the Bibbulmun Track, which stretches over 1000 kilometres from the Perth Hills to Albany on the south coast. The trail passes behind Lake Beedelup, winding its way to Big Brook Damn and through Pemberton and Gloucester National Park. Whether you’re up for a short stroll or a longer day hike, the track offers some prime bushwalking experiences. Ask for a map at Reception or Pemberton Visitor Centre to help plan your hike.

You’ll find the delightful Southern Forests Chocolate Company tucked away off the main highway, enveloped by the lush karri forest and rolling vineyards. This cosy café is set against a backdrop of a beautifully manicured garden brimming with birdlife, vibrant rose bushes and a picturesque lake.

Inside, be greeted by a display of gourmet handmade chocolate truffles, offering groumet flavours such as pistachio and salted caramel. Indulge in a decadent hot chocolate (which some say is the best in the South West!) or enjoy a coffee alongside your chocolate treats while relaxing at the outdoor tables with a view across the gardens.

This is a must-visit on your way to or from Pemberton town from RAC Karri Valley Resort.

There are many ways to explore the stunning Lake Beedelup. One of the best ways is by taking a scenic hike around the lake’s edge. The 3.5 km Beedelup Loop circuit is a gentle and pleasant track that takes you past the impressive Walk Through Tree, across suspension bridges over Beedelup Falls, and through the towering karri forest surrounding the lake.

We recommend visiting Beedelup Falls on foot to fully appreciate the beauty of the area. However, if you prefer to drive, be aware that a national park entrance fee is payable per vehicle.

The Beedelup Falls lookout platform is wheelchair accessible, and you’ll find picnic tables and toilet facilities conveniently located near the car park.

For a different perspective, explore the lake from the water. Hire a canoe or stand-up paddle board from the Activities Hut and glide your way across the calm lake. Paddle right up to the foot of the falls to admire the rocky cascades from the water.

Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy trout fishing right from the water’s edge at Lake Beedelup.

The lake is stocked with locally farmed rainbow trout, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing few hours of fishing. To get started, visit the Activities Hut to arrange permits and inquire about fishing rod and kit hire, if needed. A 24-hour fishing permit costs $10, and no freshwater fishing license is required.

You can cast a line from the main jetty near the resort or take a peaceful bushwalk to the lesser-visited jetty on the opposite side of the lake for a more secluded experience.

For more fishing adventures, Old Vasse Trout and Marron Farm is a short drive from Pemberton. This farm features another lake with rainbow trout and the possibility of catching marron.
